Three strangers, locked in a room with no way out. No fire, no torture devices — only themselves. Jean-Paul Sartre’s Behind Closed Doors is a razor-sharp exploration of masks, self-deprecation, and guilt, culminating in the famous line: “Hell is other people.”But what if Sartre’s hell is not about others being poisonous, but about our own facades collapsing when there’s nowhere left to hide? In our digital age of perfect profiles and curated lives, the play’s themes feel more urgent than ever.

Together with the trapped characters, we are confronted with the questions: what happens to us when we have to face our imperfect selves and the judgement of others? More importantly, when given a chance to forgive ourselves for our flaws, will we have the courage to do that and leave the hell?
